Summit County, Colorado was organized as one of the seventeen original Colorado counties by the First Territorial Legislature on November 1, 1861. It was named for the many mountain summits in the county.  Over 13,500 acres of protected open space with amazingly beautiful landscapes can be found in the county.  Summit County is home to world renowned skiing including but not limited to Vail, Breckenridge, & Keystone.
